A Memorial Day Message From Our Chief Science Advisor

My name is COL Luke Burnett (RET) and I’m the Chief Science Advisor at Virtue Labs.

As a veteran who retired with 27 years of service, one of the things I hear the most around Memorial Day is confusion about its purpose. Memorial Day is not a day for our active Soldiers and living veterans, though that sentiment is appreciated. Memorial Day is an opportunity to reflect and remember those who paid the ultimate price and gave their lives in defense of our nation.

After two tours in Iraq, I’ve seen the traumatic injuries that can occur on the battlefield. Today more than ever, those of us in the field of Regenerative Medicine know how important it is to develop new medical technologies for our Wounded Warfighters who struggle daily to put their lives back together. 

Over the past few years, one of the core technologies that this effort has produced is a protein called Alpha Keratin 60ku™. This material is a whole, human protein extracted from hair that was developed to help treat severe burns and regenerate injured tissues.

This same Alpha Keratin 60ku™ protein is in all of the products offered by Virtue Labs. And I am pleased to announce that the leadership team at Virtue is committed to supporting various causes of soldier and veteran care. I can think of no other effort that captures the name of the company better.
