Meet Maisha: Virtue's Foster Elephant

Meet Maisha!

Maisha, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

Maisha was a fragile 10 month old calf when she was rescued by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. She was spotted by the KWS rangers in September 2017 at the height of the drought in Tsavo. The young abandoned calf staggered to a water hole and collapsed after getting her fill. Luckily the DSWT and KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit got to her just in nick of time, transporting her to the DSWT Nursery where she would receive unparalleled round-the-clock veterinary care.

Maisha and Emoli

Maisha’s name fittingly means “life” in Swahili as she overcame potentially devastating circumstances to become a sweet, nurturing calf rarely seen without her best friend and fellow drought survivor Emoli — who she follows like a little shadow.

In December 2017 Virtue began fostering Maisha — It is with your support that we are able to contribute to this wonderful cause. Thank you for helping Virtue make a difference locally and globally.
