Creating a Strong Foundation with Brit Gharing

One thing holds true for all hair styles, regardless of length, texture, or color: a solid foundation is the key to all great hair styles.

Celebrity Stylist Brittany Gharing lent us some of her tried-and-true tricks to achieving the strongest foundation that will hold all day and through the night, without falling flat or frizzing out.

Begin with fully dried hair; can be air-dried or rough dried, whichever you prefer for your hair texture.

Brittany advises that choosing the right styling cream for your hair type is key to the foundational integrity. She goes with the Un-Frizz Cream to add extra moisture to her parched ends, and recommends the 6-in-1 for strands that tend to fall flat, while the Moisture Defining Whip is fabulous for wavy and curly textures.

To apply she massages a small dime sized amount of the product to the insides and backs of her hands before combing and twisting through strands, focusing first on on the bottom third and working upwards.

She then begins enhancing her wavy texture with randomly placed polished curls. She wraps her lengths around the iron, away from her face, avoiding the clip which can cause a crimp and unnecessary friction to your strands. As she releases the curl she holds for a brief second to cool, and then pulls the ends to create a soft ‘S’ wave.

PRO TIP: Don’t curl higher than your ear for a natural soft beachy vibe.

To add volume Brit targets the Lifting Powder into her root and massages it in. She then gently sprays, in a less targeted motion, throughout her mid-lengths to add thickness and texture to her style.

The last step, tousle and work into place as desired.
