Damage Free Blowout
Damage-free blowout... sounds unreal, right? We asked LA hairdresser Jess Cook to take us through the steps to her brush-free, heat-free, damage-free blowout #withVIRTUE.
Jess has been using Virtue for some time now and found that the Moisture Defining Whip has become one of her favorite blowout products regardless of hair type.
While we tend to turn to this product for wavy and curly textures, Jess has found that it works excellently for straight fine strands. She recommends the Moisture Defining Whip to smooth ends that can frizz, flyaway, and flip out.
Follow the steps below to get her chic, sleek, damage free blowout.
Prep hair by applying a ping pong ball size amount of the Moisture Defining Whip. Jess suggests applying with a fine tooth comb, picking up small amounts and combing it through the hair from ears to ends, avoiding the root.
She then starts drying. Set your blowdryer to high air, low heat (heat on the root damages the follicle and can cause long term damage to your growth cycle) and focus first on the root. Using your fingers pull the hair upward and direct air in the same direction — this will smooth the follicle in the right direction while also creating volume.
When the root is approximately 80% dry begin to over direct the hair from the the cowlick, at your crown, forward. Finish drying the remaining 20% in this direction to create movement and volume throughout the crown of your hair.
Once the root and mid-shaft are dry move to the ends. Use your fingers to pull the ends taught and target the air directly on the ends — this will be possible because you are using cool rather than hot air. As your hair becomes almost dry loosley twist hair from the front back to create that slight swoop of movement.
