HOW TO: Bombshell Blowout with Liz Jung
That bombshell blowout at the salon is something superhuman that we mere mortals couldn’t fathom recreating at home, right? We thought so too until we witnessed Liz Jung recreate her famous post-treatment blowout, on herself, via Instagram stories!
What in a salon can sometimes take 3 people (read: 6 arms!), multiple blowdryers and a plethora of brushes, she just did in-front of her iPhone in selfie mode… no assistant! Minds-blown we reached out to Liz to see if she could teach us her ways!
Follow along below as Liz shares her steps to mastering the Bombshell Blowout at home!
WHAT YOU NEED:
Medium round brush
Blow dryer with concentrator
STEP 1: PREP
Liz starts by applying a cocktail of products to damp hair to address different concerns. She’s naturally curly and has a straightening treatment so she wants to fight frizz that can form around her hairline with the Polish Unfrizz Cream.
To keep lengths light, shiny, and bouncy she recommends using the 6-in-1. “I have a ton of hair so I use more than the average person!” she laughs. “In the salon I use between a dime and nickel size amount… I’m on the higher end!”
To protect her ends she tells us, “ I always use the Split End Serum! It’s my miracle product that I tell every client to buy. It keeps my ends strong so they don’t break or fray.”
STEP 2:
“I start at the crown, where I want the most volume, and work my way back and down. It lets the under layers that don’t need as much focus to slightly air dry, making it easier when I get to the end.”
Using a round brush start at your root and roll away from the face as you pull the brush and blowdryer through your ends.
PRO TIP: Always use a concentrator to target the air on the section you’re working on, and angle the dryer so the air flows down the strand towards the ends.
Keep the brush parallel to the ground as you pull through, this way when the section splits at your part both sides will flow to the back.
Continue this motion until dry. Once dry loosely wrap hair around the brush to cool. But she warns, “don’t pull so tight that it tangles into the brush! I’ve seen clients do this and it’s painful to detangle. You’re just wrapping it so the hair can cool and set.”
Repeat this step in medium sized sections from your bangs through your crown.
STEP 3:
Once you’re through the crown come back forward to the sides.
On the sides you’ll hold the brush at a 45 degree angle, down from your crown, as you glide the brush out and repeat the motion from step 2.
Continue from the front of each side through the back.
STEP 4:
Now that all of your hair is dry you want to set for long lasting hold!
Liz pumps a few puffs of Lifting Powder through her root for volume. And then sets the style with a light mist of Shaping Spray.
PRO TIP: If you have breakage or flyaways around your hairline or crown you can spray the Shaping Spray directly into your hands and gently smooth them down.
Liz cautions, “Work sparingly with your products on day 1 to get the most days out of your blowout! I use only what my hair needs, that way I can add a little more on day 2 and 3 (sometimes 4!) to refresh without getting weighed down or oily.
